Scholarship Details

The Mental Health Graduate Student Scholarship supports dedicated students pursuing advanced degrees in mental health and human services fields. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, professional commitment, and a passion for serving others in their communities. We seek to support the next generation of mental health professionals who will make meaningful contributions to the field and improve access to quality mental health services.
Award Amount: $250 per Fall or Spring semester
Number of Awards: Dependent upon funds and number of qualified applicants
Renewable: Yes, for up to two years with continued eligibility.
Application Deadline:
December 1 for Spring semester
July 1 for Fall semester

Eligible Programs

Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into an accredited graduate program in one of the following fields:
● Social Work
● School Counseling
● School Psychology
● Clinical Psychology
● Mental Health Counseling
● Marriage and Family Therapy
● And other majors leading to mental health licensure

Academic Standing

● Minimum 3.25 GPA for current graduate students
● Strong undergraduate academic record for incoming students
● Enrollment in at least 6 credit hours per semester

Required Documents
  1. Completed application form with personal and academic information
  2. Personal statement (500-750 words) addressing:
    ○ Your motivation for entering the mental health field
    ○ Career goals and how this degree supports them
    ○ Specific populations or issues you hope to address
    ○ How financial support will impact your educational journey
  3. Academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (unofficial are acceptable)
  4. Two letters of recommendation from:
    ○ Academic supervisor, professor, or advisor
    ○ Professional supervisor or employer (if applicable)
  5. Resume or CV highlighting relevant experience, volunteer work, and achievements.
Additional Criteria

● Demonstrated commitment to mental health through volunteer work, employment, or
personal experience
● Leadership potential and community involvement
● Clear articulation of professional goals aligned with mental health service
● Be a member in good standing of Amarillo Mental Health Professionals when submitting the application and the year during which the scholarship will be applied
